IAW Theme 2009: "Walk The Talk"

2009 IAW theme

This theme is all about recognising our common humanity, celebrating our diversity and respecting each other. But maybe we’ve heard all this before and nobody seems to disagree with it, so let’s try to practise what we preach. We can all talk the talk, so now let's walk the walk.

The theme conveys the idea of going out of your way to get to know other people who you may not otherwise meet and try to understand each other better. Listening to each other will help avoid misunderstandings, suspicion and ill feelings to develop within our society. Listening leads to a better understanding, which will hopefully lead to working together side by side to create a better future.

IAW National Training Day - 18th July - Birmingham

Date: 18th July 2009
Time: 10am – 5pm
Venue: Sparkhill Social & Cultural centre, Stratford Road, Sparkhill Birmingham B11

This year’s Islam Awareness Week (IAW) will be 16th-22nd November 2009. This year’s theme is “Walk the Talk” which is about living in our multi-faith society, connecting with each other and respecting each other.

In preparation for IAW, we are offering people the chance to plan for the week and make the best use of your time and resources by arranging an IAW training day.

What we will be covering:

  1. The meaning behind the theme?
  2. Fundraising ideas
  3. Presentations of previous IAW events
  4. What can the IAW national team can do for you?
  5. Local plans and training needs

It will be a prime opportunity to understand more about the theme and discuss first hand with those responsible about how the theme can work for you in your locality for IAW. You will get to meet other people who have been involved with IAW in the past and benefit from their experience and advice they have to offer you. You could also share your own experiences with other localities. Most importantly you will receive training to inspire you in preparing for a fantastic IAW.

Places are free, but registration before 15th July is essential. Please contact Somia Shafiq at somia@ntlworld.com or 07957 22136 to register.
