One World: Our Children, Our Future is the theme for this year’s Islam Awareness Week. In line with this we have teamed up with Barnardo’s the national children’s charity (UK registered charity no. 216250 and Scottish registered charity no. sc037605), to organise the ‘Open Eyes’ Sponsorship Competition for primary and secondary schools.
Children have to find key objects listed or complete fact finding exercises in order to help raise money for Barnardo’s and a locally selected children’s charity (65% of funds raised for Barnardo’s and 35% for the local charity). The school that raises the most money will win over £400 worth of RE resources for their school (sponsored by the Muslim Council of Britain).
Islam Awareness Week (IAW) is a national initiative aimed to help remove misconceptions, break down barriers and build links between communities, by encouraging people to work together for the common good and by enhancing understanding across differences we can develop a greater sense of care, trust and respect for each other. We feel that our children have a tremendous role to play in building a brighter future for all of us, hence this years theme.
Further to the competition, we have a number of other resources available:
